William
Shakespeare
(1564-1616,
wiki) and his works (comedies, histories, tragedies, sonnets,
etc.) continue to occupy an indomitable place amongst world
knowledge sources despite periodic controversies. This page contains
my thoughts on one of the finest playwrights. I will also cover the
Sanskrit playwright Kalidasa (6th
century AD,
wiki), who is sometimes called the Indian
Shakespeare.
I have read As You Like It,
Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing,
Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, Twelfth Night, brushed through
Hamlet, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, and watched staging of
A Midsummer
Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, As You Like It. I have also read English translations
of Kalidasa's Abhijnanashakuntalam and Meghaduttam.
Okay, I admit that's not much, but I hope to read and learn more as
time passes by :-)
I love Shakespearean
comedies. I am particularly enthralled by the allegory and literary
allusions sprinkled throughout the works of both playwrights. One of
my dreams is to watch an enactment at the
Globe
theatre.
